Date – September 2007
Background
ERM organise an annual conference for their 80 plus staff in the UK. Each office take their turn. In 2007 the South Wales and Bristol offices took it upon themselves to organise the event. This required hotel accommodation for 82 delegates; arranging a conference venue in a “unique location” to show off the area to the area to the others staff from around the UK; a BBQ with live band in the evening; group fun games; exhilarating outdoor activities so the local organizers could show off the best of the Welsh countryside whilst adding that wow factor with participating in the activities.
Objectives
The objectives were:-
- Team to gain an understanding of each other as people not just in business
- “Show Off” to London, Oxford, Edinburgh offices and others what’s on offer in South Wales
- Share a common experience that bonds the team
- Have a programme which would appeal to everyone within the group
- Review Company performance but to have fun whilst doing it
The Programme
In consultation with the client we arranged for the group to use a hotel at Oxwich Bay on the stunning Gower Peninsula, the first place in the UK to be designated An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The hotel, situated next to the beach directly overlooking the majestic bay with the famous Three Cliffs as a backdrop was the conference venue.
We couldn’t pass up the opportunity of using the beach so in the late afternoon after the conference, with the sun setting over the Bay a series of beach games were arranged which included rounders. In the evening a BBQ was arranged in the hotel grounds overlooking the Bay and a band played into the late night.
After staying the night in a recently refurbished Swansea marina side 3* hotel the group were transported to the Brecon Beacons for their outdoor adventure activities. They chose to try paintballing, canyoning, kayaking, canoeing and raft building.
Outcomes
Just read what our client thought of the programme:-
“This is one the best events we have been on. Many thanks for you help, inspiration and ideas.”
