New Mental Toughness Workshops

Saturday, July 5th, 2025

Call of the Wild is pleased to announce the formation of a partnership in excellence with Rossett based AQR Ltd. This places Call of the Wild at the leading edge of thinking around the development of people and organisations at all levels and at all ages.

Mental toughness is the quality which determines in large part how individuals respond to stress, pressure, and to challenge irrespective of the prevailing circumstances. For instance it is possible to place two individuals into the same working environment and to observe that one succumbs to the pressures of stress and performance poorly and the other thrives and achieves high performance. The difference can be explained through the concept of mental toughness.

We are due to deliver the first workshop to John Lewis in August of that year and we are still delivering resilience to many of our clients.

We’re in the Director’s magazine this Month

Thursday, September 5th, 2024

We’ve appeared in many publications over the years. Back in 2011  The “Director” magazine mentioned us alongside the Eden project in an article about corporate social responsibility. Here’s an extract:-

“Placing corporate responsibility at the heart of your business is, of course, a brilliant way of helping local communities in these challenging times. But did you know it can also boost your books? We spoke to three companies reaping the benefits

A year after the 1981 riots in Toxteth and Brixton, the UK was suffering high unemployment and inner-city unrest. These events informed the creation of Business in the Community (BITC), a business charity dedicated to regenerating local economies. Its slogan was “healthy back streets make for healthy high streets”.

“Following the riots businesses realised that what happens in the community impacts on them,” says Andy Melia, Community Mark manager at BITC. “They understood that working with communities is a sensible and responsible way to do business and that it has benefits for them as an organisation.”

Mark Goyder, founder director of business-led think tank Tomorrow’s Company, believes that some of the reasons that led to the launch of BITC are resurfacing. “There is a danger of a growing divide between business and society through a lack of trust. Look at the recent riots, the vandalism of Fortnum & Mason during the spending cuts protest or Rupert Murdoch being splattered with shaving foam. It is a symbol of people saying business stinks,” he says. The withdrawal of public funding from charities and community projects adds to the problem. “There is a big gap to be filled. Businesses are stepping up and saying we can make a contribution here,” he adds.”

Take Part in ILM’s “First Time Manager” Research

Thursday, August 4th, 2011

Call of the Wild have been asked by the ILM and  David Pardey, ILM’s Senior Manager, Research & Policy companies and individuals who are willing to take part in this new research projectThe project is to follow some newly appointed managers for their first three months in post, to find out what they find straightforward to deal with and what presents challenges or problems for them. This has not been done before and so there is no reliable research to help employers provide appropriate support and guidance for newly appointed first time managers. The challenge for ILM is to identify these new First Time Managers (FTM) as soon as they are appointed so that we can interview them just before they start in their new role and during their first 100 days.

The King’s Speech – Leadership Lessons

Monday, February 28th, 2011

The British film ‘The King’s Speech’ has swept the board at both the BAFTA’s and the Oscars this year picking up the Best Actor, Best Film and Best Director awards to name but a few. But are there any lessons for leaders in business to learn from the main characters in the film. I think there are significant lessons to learn such as can all leaders admit to their own shortcomings as leaders and not only admit to them but seek to rectify them. Also what about the power of self-confidence and self-belief in business?
